Photoshop for the Impatient: This brief introductory course is designed for serious photographers and other image makers who want to learn quickly to use the computer and, in particular, Photoshop, to enhance or create their digital work. With a focus on how the editing process works and with hands on examples designed to illustrate key concepts, this course will help students develop a foundation that will make them immediately productive and enable them to pursue, with confidence, more advanced concepts as their needs demand. Topics covered include:

  • Image editing concepts: bit map vs. vector graphics, layers and overall image structure, and some insights about color on the computer.
  • The Photoshop work space: menus, tools, and palettes .
  • Selecting and working with parts of an image.
  • Managing your images: copies, backups, and master files.
  • Soup to nuts, an image editing workflow including cropping and rotating, fixing defects, tonal and color adjustments, fixing parts of an image, and preparing for output to the web or print.

Introduction to Digital Photography is for people who want to adapt quickly to the digital world. Topics covered include selecting and using digital cameras; managing images with their personal computer; editing and retouching basics; and outputting to a printer or the web.

Advanced Image Editing with Photoshop is a seies of various workshops that explore, in depth, particular aspects of digital editing, for example

  • Use of layers, selections, and masks.
  • Levels, curves, and other tools for fine tuning images.
  • Preparing images for output.

Lightroom Essentials explores a photographic workflow from capture, to image management, editing, and finally output. The course covers Lightroom's five components, Library, Develop, Slideshow, Print, and Web, and emphasizes practical techniques for quicly processing images. Its use as a stanalone program or in conjunction with Photoshop is also covered.
